If you’re looking for some escapist TV during self-isolation, we’ve rounded up some of the best box sets to binge watch on Netflix.
1. Sunderland 'Til I Die
Sunderland ‘Til I Die returned to the streaming service on April 1 for its second outing. Filmed over 15 months, the new series focuses on new owner Stewart Donald and executive director Charlie Methven as they attempt to haul the Black Cats out of English football’s third tier. The behind-the-scenes documentary features a look at the inner workings of the club – from the board members to the admin staff – as well as keeping a close eye on the players and long-suffering fans. 2. Homeland
The eighth and final series of Homeland is currently being aired on Channel 4, but on Netflix you can go right back to its post 9/11 roots. Arguably one of its best series, although they're all a masterclass in acting and storytelling to be fair, series one sees the love/hate relationship form between lovably flawed CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Clare Danes) and US Marine Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) who she fears is plotting a terrorist attack on America after being turned during his eight years held captive by al-Qaeda. It's a compelling rollercoaster ride of red herrings, intrigue, politics and subterfuge. Photo: Library
3. Stranger Things
For a truly original series which fuses sci-fi with great 80s snyth tunes and fashion, head down the worm hole into Stranger Things. Created by the Duffer Brothers, it's a compelling slice of American supernatural drama which appeals to teens and parents alike. The scene is set in the fictional town of Hawkins in America's mid-West where a young boy disappears in curious circumstances. There's three seasons to work your way through with a fourth series due to drop in 2021. Photo: Library photo
4. NARCOS
Get hooked on Narcos. Set in Columbia, it follows the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, the famous Robin Hood figure of the cocaine world which makes for a shocking, yet compelling, watch. If you make it through two series of that, series three shifts to Mexico and the machinations of the Cali Cartel. Photo: Juan Pablo Gutierrez/NETFLIX
