Cautious welcome for 'complete turnaround' in Amble Covid-19 rate

Six weeks ago, Amble ward had among Northumberland’s highest coronavirus infection rates but case numbers are now considerably lower.
Latest date from Public Health England, published by Northumberland County Council, reveals there were 13 positive cases in the week to January 13 with an infection rate of 247.6 per 100,000.

Hide AdNeighbouring Amble West with Warkworth fares even better with fewer than five positive cases recorded over the same period and an infection rate of 99.2.
Cllr Jeff Watson, member for Amble West with Warkworth, said: “There has been a complete turnaround over the last few weeks in Amble and Amble and Warkworth.
"They are doing very well and Northumberland’s rate has fallen which is really good news.
"That doesn’t mean we’re out of it as there are still lots of issues but I’m really pleased at what we’re seeing at the moment.”

Hide AdAt a meeting of Amble Town Council, he also welcomed news that 10% of the population of Northumberland has now been vaccinated.
"By the end of next week we’re hoping that we’ll have 20% of the whole population vaccinated which is among the highest in the country,” he said.
"That doesn’t mean we can relax but it’s really good news which shows how much the NHS is doing for us and how well we are working together to deal with this problem.”
Members of the county council’s health and wellbeing committee were told earlier this week that around 32,000 people have now had their first injections.
