The Lady of the North at Northumberlandia gets a makeover to repair wear and tear

The huge landform sculpture, which attracts over 90,000 visitors to the Blagdon site each year, had suffered erosion on the path leading to the head.
To prevent trips and falls, steps have been installed by Northumberland Wildlife Trust estates officer Peter Ernst and his small squad of volunteers.

Hide AdThe task has been tough going at times with the team having to follow Covid social distancing rules, which included not sharing tools and working two metres apart.
There has also been a fair amount of wintry weather to contend with.
“Since 2012 there has been a lot of wear and tear,” admitted Peter. “It’s been tough going at times doing these repairs as there are usually dozens of volunteers helping me around the site, but this task is being completed by a very small team, so their support is invaluable and really appreciated.”
Work is expected to finish by mid-February.
