Dog legislation leads to new consultation
The council is consulting on a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to replace its existing dog-control orders.
It is a requirement of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act 2014 that all councils do this before October 20, 2017.
Northumberland County Council previously introduced four orders in 2011 and the proposal is to replace these with a PSPO with substantially the same effect.
The current orders tackle fouling in public places; ban dogs from play areas and sections of the beach at Blyth and Newbiggin; and require dogs to be on leads in cemeteries and by A and B roads.
