Bamburgh approach road earmarked for £120,000 repair scheme

Northumberland County Council is planning to spend £120,000 on the B1341 between Bamburgh and Glororum.
The funding is provisionally included in the council’s Local Transport Plan programme for 2021/22.

Hide AdCllr Guy Renner-Thompson, Bamburgh ward county councillor, said: “Once it’s done up to Glororum the plan is to follow the road up to Lucker.
"It’s deteriorating all the time, especially with all those cars parked on it as you leave the village.
"The detail on that will come out when it goes to the Local Area Council in February.”
Cllr Kate Morton has spoken to interested parties about the potential for a path linking Bamburgh and Glororum Holiday Park.

Hide AdShe had spoken to Bamburgh Castle Estates who are waiting for news on post-Brexit farming subsidies before deciding whether field margins can be used.
She said: “I think we will get there. There is a willingness but it’s not going to happen any time soon.”
Meanwhile, councillors were told that Northumberland County Council is now planning to introduce single rather than double yellow lines on The Wynding.
A four-week consultation ends on February 15.
Cllr Renner-Thompson said: “You can’t have double yellow lines for a seasonal restriction so it will be a single yellow line with signs up explaining the restrictions.”

Hide AdParking restrictions on the road, one of the main access points to the beach, have been proposed for some time.
Cones to prevent parking have been in place in recent months as a temporary measure.
More than 100 residents have now responded to a parking survey being conducted by the parish council.

Hide AdThe deadline for responses is January 25, after which the working group will put together a summary for the council’s next meeting on March 9.
It was reported that repairs to the lighthouse steps were carried out last week.
A pre-planning application is also being planned for a beach wheelchairs storage shed. It was agreed to discuss it with Bamburgh Castle Estates.
